Orchestra Festival

Sunday, February 12 @ LZHS @ 12: 30 PM Arrival | 3 PM Performance

Every other year, the District 95 Orchestra Program holds a festival performance with all ensembles ranging from beginning (4th grade) to advanced (High School) sharing their hard work in one large room. It’s a great time to hear all levels perform to remember where we came from and where we’re going.

Here are the details.

  • Attire: Orchestra Polo, Black Slacks/Skirt, Dress Shoes/Socks
  • 12:30 PM – Arrive at LZHS Performing Arts Center (PAC) Lobby
    • Tune, Rehearse, Etc.
  • 3:00 PM – Festival Performance in LZHS Field House
    • Families & Friends welcome to attend!
  • More Information at Event Page.

Bistro Nite

Wednesday, February 22 @ 6 – 8 PM

A few days prior to Solo & Ensemble Contest, we will host an evening of laid back performances from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the MSN Cafetorium. Bistro Nite is an evening of music, a social gathering and a chance for students to perform their solo or ensemble before the big day at Solo & Ensemble Contest. This is no regular concert where the audience sits and listens quietly. This is an evening where all are welcome to come and go when they choose. Audience members can stay as long as desired to enjoy the performances, eat good bake-sale food, mingle with others, and have a great time! Be sure to bring money for treats.

If students want to perform at Bistro Nite, they should sign up with their director. Since there are limited performance slots available, a lottery may be used to determine which students perform. We encourage all BOC students to attend the evening even if they are not performing. This is a great opportunity for them to support their peers.

Solo & Ensemble Contest

Saturday, February 25 @ All Day

Volunteers Needed! We are hosting and need many parent volunteers to help with various jobs (concessions, parking, info tables, hallway monitors, etc.). If you are available to help, please sign up for a job and shift!

Performance Schedule. Unfortunately, we do not yet know the specific performance times for each performer. We will soon receive a schedule from NIMCon, the organization that organizes the contests.

Soloists. If you are performing a solo at contest, you must acquire a piano accompanist. Some students may have their own piano accompanist (perhaps their private teacher or other), but I do have two pianists that are available to accompany students. Parents, below is their email. I can provide their phone numbers upon request.

I will try to invite Mrs. Sundberg & Mrs. McCallum to work with the students during orchestra rehearsal as well as after school.

Cost. There is a a small fee that some of you have already paid, but if you haven’t please get me $7 per performance event your child is performing.

Event Page. I will continue to update the event page with more information, as I receive it.

Nut & Candy Fundraiser

March 1 – March 15

On March 1st, we will begin our Nut & Candy Fundraiser. Students can earn money to help offset the cost of the Orchestra Trip. Stay tuned for more details during orchestra rehearsals.

Organization Contest

Saturday, March 11 @ Hawthorn MS North @ TBA

Every year, the Chamber Orchestra participates in Organization Contest. The Chamber Orchestra prepares three pieces and performs to three judges who score the performance. Medals may be awarded based on score.

Auditions. Every other year (this year), we combine with MS-South Orchestra to form the D95 Sinfonietta Orchestra. The Sinfonietta Orchestra is an auditioned orchestra that is made up of about 30 students from both MSN & MSS. Audition details will be given during orchestra class.

Students, if you want to audition, let me know!

Schedule. We do know our performance time yet, but once we do, I will pass on a schedule. Most likely we will be performing in the early afternoon.

Event Page. I will continue to update the event page with more information, as I receive it.

Orchestra Trip

April 27 – 29

We are currently in the works of putting finishing touches on the plans for our St. Louis Trip and it’s going to be a fun one! I will update the event page as I know more details.

Payment. The second deposit ($150) is due on February 10th. At that time you should have paid $250 of the total $450 total. If you would like to pay in full, that is ok too. Make checks payable to “CUSD95”.

Chaperones. We are in need of 4 (or so) parent chaperones to accompany us on the trip. Your partnership to make this an amazing trip for the kids would be greatly encouraged! Let me know if you can join us. Ideally, I’d love to get $400 from parent-chaperones to pay for various costs, but if can do it but can’t pay the full amount, I may be able to lower the cost for you. Let me know!
