Orchestra Picture Day (2/13)
On Wednesday, February 13, we will be taking our group Orchestra pictures during school. Be sure to wear your orchestra polo and blue jeans. Prima Musica pictures will also be taken after school during the normal Wednesday rehearsal time.
Preview Recital for Solo & Ensemble Contest (2/20)
On Wednesday, February 20, students will have an extra opportunity to perform their solo or ensemble in front of a live audience at a Preview Recital prior to the contest performance on the following Saturday. Sign-ups to perform will be available in the orchestra room sometime in February.
Since there are limited performance slots available, a lottery may be used to determine which students perform. We encourage all BOC students to attend the evening even if they are not performing. This is a great opportunity for them to support their peers.
The Preview Recital will be held in the Choir Room after school from 2:30 – 4:00 PM. Students will be able to take the late-late bus home. This event is optional and not required.
Solo & Ensemble Contest (2/23)
On Saturday, February 23, all 7th and 8th graders along with many 6th graders will be performing at the NIMCon Solo & Ensemble Contest.
Practice, practice, practice! At this point, with just over two weeks to go, students should be practicing their pieces every day. If they are in an ensemble they should be getting together outside of school to work on their music together. This can be done after school here in the orchestra room on most days.
Still have questions? Everything you need to know about Solo & Ensemble Contest will be available at NIMCon Solo & Ensemble Contest. As I receive any last information from the host site, I will include the information there.
NIMCon Music Festival (3/9)
On Saturday, March 9, the Chamber Orchestra (grades 7/8) will be performing for three judges at the annual Northern Illinois Music Conference Music Festival. http://www.lzork.com/event/nimconfest-2019/. We will be performing three pieces for the judges and following the performance will receive a short clinic with one of the judges.
Hildebrand Music Festival (3/12)
On Tuesday, March 12, the Intermezzo Orchestra (grade 6) will be performing for a clinician at the Hildebrand Music Festival. Following the performance, the orchestra will receive a full 30 minute clinic with an esteemed music educator.
We will most likely be stopping for lunch at a local restaurant, which may incur a small cost. More information and permission forms will be available in the coming weeks.
D95 AltStrings Fest (4/16)
Prima Musica will be performing with the MSS Silly Strings and the LZHS Pop Orchestra “Bear Strings” at the D95 AltStrings Fest on Tuesday, April 16. Prima Musica will be performing Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze, Cole Porter’s Begin the Beguine, and more.
D95 StringFest (5/3)
On Friday, May 3, all of the D95 Orchestras (grade 4 – 12) will be performing at the biennial D95 StringFest. It’s a great opportunity to hear the orchestra program as a whole and the progression of students who begin the awesome journey of orchestra in 4th Grade. Witness the hard work of the orchestra students throughout the many years all the way up through 12th Grade.
Spring Concert (5/16)
The final Spring Concert will be held on Thursday, May 16 @ 7 PM in the LZMSN Cafetorium. At the final concert we will bid a bittersweet adieu to the 8th graders, perform music from a wide range of eras, as well as perform music from our very own Composer in Residence, The Viper!
Awards Banquet (5/22)
At the end of every year (this year on May 22) students are awarded for their accomplishments at the annual BOC Awards Banquet. The evening begins with a formal dinner, followed by a DJ & dance, and ends in an awards ceremony where all orchestra students (band and choir too) are recognized for their participation in orchestra and select students are awarded for their extraordinary achievements in orchestra.
Mr. Broach’s New Baby Due in March!
Also, if you haven’t heard, Mr. Broach is expecting Baby #2 in a little more than one month and will be taking parental leave to take care of the baby as well as Mommy and Baby #1 (now a toddler). But no need to worry! Mrs. Phillips, whom the students loved from two years ago, will be returning to teach orchestra! I’m crossing my fingers that baby doesn’t come until after March 12.
